Nintendo Releasing Revamped Wii in Europe
Nintendo will release a revamped version of its Wii console in Europe by year's end, the company announced this week.
Nintendo said the makeover will be a slight alteration that streamlines the popular console. Specifically, the Wii will now sit horizontally instead of vertically. Eurogamer reports , however, that the updated Wii will not support backwards compatibility, meaning it won't work with GameCube games or hardware like the GameCube pad. The blog also posted a photo of the console (left).
The updated Wii will come in white and be included in a bundle that includes a Wii Remote Plus controller, Nunchuk, and copies of Wii Sports and Wii Party.
Nintendo did not discuss pricing, but said the updated console will be released in time for this year's holiday season. It also promised "a number of other Wii bundles."
Nintendo also announced a number of upcoming games for the European market. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be released for the Wii on November 18. Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 will also hit the Wii in November and December, respectively. Super Pokemon Rumble will also be released for the 3DS in December.
