RED BANK, NJ - Thursday, March 29, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Red Bank Public Library adoption reform advocate Carol Barbieri will discuss her experiences as an adoptee in New Jersey and her difficult search to find her biological family. Carol was separated from her twin sister at birth, abandoned as an infant, and had unknowingly lived blocks away from another sister. Her son’s life-threatening medical crisis initiated her quest to find her birth family because access to her birth certificate would have supplied her with potentially life-saving information. “I was a victim of a system that was set up to protect everyone in the adoption triangle except me. And that system was now making my son a victim too,” Barbieri wrote in a New York Times article November 29, 2005. A member of NJCARE (New Jersey Coalition for Adoption Reform and Education), freelance writer, songwriter, and musician, Carol will perform her original adoption song, “Your Secret’s Safe with Me,” at the end of her presentation.
