Yakima moms share secrets of coupon-clipping success

YAKIMA, Wash. -- According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 2011 a family of four with two children younger than 6 spends an average of $836.20 a month on groceries. That's $193 a week, under a moderate-cost food plan.
Aubrey Does, 28, of Yakima spends about $300.
The difference? Coupons.
Always a frugal budgeter, Does said she began seriously clipping coupons about two years ago. Now the stay-at-home mom of a 4 year old and 16 month old writes for FrugalYakimaMom.com, a blog started about a year ago by Yakima resident Jaime Carroll, 28.
Through the blog, Carroll and Does offer couponing tips, lists of available coupons and weekly posts highlighting the best deals at Valley grocery stores.
Carroll, who has three girls ages 6, 4 and 2, said she spends about $450 a month on food for her family. And for a stay-at-home mom, Carroll makes good money: She estimates she saves $20 for every hour she puts into clipping coupons and looking for deals.
