We reveal the various methods of running a Windows installation on a Mac
The appeal of Apple lies in its distinctive hardware, and its unique operating system. But under the bonnet Macs and PCs share the same internal architecture, using industry-standard Intel processors, chipsets and graphics systems.
That means it’s perfectly possible to run Windows on a Mac – which in turn means you don’t have to hop between computers to run your favourite OS X and Windows-only applications. There are two approaches you can take: either set up a dual-boot system with Boot Camp, or use virtualisation software to run Windows alongside OS X.
Boot Camp
Apple’s Boot Camp system divides your hard disk into two partitions. All your existing OS X applications and documents are kept on one partition, and Windows 7 is installed onto the other (earlier versions of Windows are no longer supported by Boot Camp). When you switch on your Mac, you can choose whether to boot into OS X as usual, or into Windows, effectively turning your Mac – temporarily – into a regular PC.

FYI,
No need to pay for Parallels, Virtualbox is free and it'll accomplish the same thing. If it doesn't meet your needs you can always buy Parallels then.
