A: I'm a little surprised that Word will finish generating the PDF file when it can't convert that last page. But when the program has difficulty converting, it's generally because of something corrupt in the formatting code.
Try saving the Word file in a different format, such as RTF. Then go to Acrobat, open that file and then save it as a PDF file. That may eliminate the corrupt formatting data and allow you to convert the entire file.
Q: I have a Sony Vaio laptop, which is a nice machine, but it seems to load a lot of stuff at startup. It seems to take a long time to load the programs and shortcuts I need. I ran anti-virus and malware programs and all is clean. I amped up my RAM to the maximum of 8 gigabytes and that helped, but it didn't eliminate the slowdown. When I run Task Manager, I see that 103 processes load at startup, my CPU usage fluctuates between 0 percent and 21 percent, and my physical memory ranges from 26 percent to 45 percent. That's before I've even loaded any programs such as Outlook or Excel! I ran MSCONFIG.EXE at startup and tried to delete some programs that didn't look necessary, but that ended up affecting things such as icon performance and screen display. Is there any easy way to tell what programs you can delete from loading at startup? Do you think this is even my problem?

It offers real-time protection against malware and malicious websites known to the Malwarebytes database as well as automatic updating and scanning. If one is detected, Malwarebytes automatically terminates the connection and alerts the user with a simple bubble in the task bar. Malwarebytes tops the list once again with the professional edition of their flagship product. Incremental updates keeps Malwarebytes up-to-date quicker, allowing it to detect more malicious software. This is one of the main reasons Malwarebytes tops the list....

Keith has Norton AntiVirus, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, and Windows Firewall. Is this overkill? That depends. If you have all of them running at all times,
Top free programs for protecting laptops (or desktops for that matter) from viruses and spyware include AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, Avast Free Antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Microsoft Security Essentials. They're all available at
To keep the bad guys at bay, I'd go with a free anti-malware program like Ad-Aware (lavasoft.com), AVG Anti-Virus Free (free.avg.com), Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (malwarebytes.org), or Microsoft Security Essentials (microsoft.com/securityessentials).
For a one-time check, you can also try the free version of MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware (malwarebytes.com). If you have a Mac, the odds are low that you got hacked, but the free ClamXav (clamxav.com) can double-check for you.
If yours doesn't, or if you just want an extra layer of security, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is one of the best known (and free!) products available. While they may not be as destructive as viruses, adware and spyware will compromise privacy and slow
