Nowitzki leads Mavs past Jazz; Magic crush Bucks
MANILA, Philippines – The defending champion Dallas Mavericks snapped a four-game losing streak after defeating the Utah Jazz, 102-96, thanks to a stellar performance from Dirk Nowitzki.
Nowitzki, last season’'s Finals MVP, scored a season-high 40 points on 14-of-21 shooting. Jason Terry had 22 points off the bench while Lamar Odom had nine points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks in his return to the Mavericks.
"I had a good rhythm tonight," Nowitzki told NBA.com. "I had not been really shooting the ball well, especially around 15-16 feet, which is usually my comfort zone."
"I just wanted to be aggressive and my teammates kept feeding me and that was great," he added.
The Mavs led by as much as 23 points but the Jazz stormed back in the game in the fourth quarter.
A three-point play by Paul Millsap brought the Jazz to within five points, 88-93, but Jason Terry converted on a runner with less than a minute to go to keep Utah at bay.
