LUMMI ISLAND - A droopy dog on the roof of a geodesic dome led to a 911 call and a hurried response from seven Lummi Island firefighters Tuesday morning, May 15. Firefighters were dispatched about 11:30 a. m. to a report of a large dog on the roof of a geodesic dome-style house at 3722 Constitution Road, said District 11 Fire Chief Duncan McLane. A woman who lives there said she was afraid of heights and couldn't convince the dog to come down, so she called the fire department, McLane said. Lummi Island's fire crews respond to about 40 to 50 calls each year, including medical emergency calls, but the dog on the roof was a first, McLane said. The fire engine rolled up to the home about the same time as the woman's husband, McLane said, and he told firefighters he could rescue the pet himself.
