22.05.12
The visit coincided with the school's celebration of Read Across America and was part of a day long series of events to promote reading.
Jack the Jackal, the team's mascot, and Shannon Koop from group sales with the New Jersey Jackals visited the school to explain the team's Hit the Books reading program. The New Jersey Jackals, part of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play at Yogi Berra Stadium at Montclair State University in Little Falls .
"Jack loves to read," said Koop.
Hit the Books is an incentive-based reading program to encourage students to do their homework. Each student receives a bookmark to track the completion of four assignments determined by their teacher. For each completed prize students will be rewarded with a Jackals prize.
Students can earn up to four prizes, including an ice skating pass, a Jackals wristband, a meal voucher at a game and two tickets to a game.
"In order to get each prize you have to do your homework," said Koop.
