A forecast and report “Mobile Coupons & NFC Smart Posters: Strategies, Applications & Forecasts 2009-2014 ,” by Juniper Research predicts that more than 300 million consumers around the world will have used mobile coupons by 2014. mobiThinking.com cites from Juniper Research’s 2010 report, that mCoupons will dominate mobile retail marketing spend until 2013: Mobile retail will exceed US$12 billion by 2014 (mobile retail is defined as mCoupon redemption values, smart poster fees and advertising expenditure).
The report by Juniper Research, predicts that as more and more people acquire smart phones, the apps revolution will continue to trigger growth of new mobile coupon services, especially in developed markets. In turn, consumers will exploit the improved capabilities of their devices, especially to save money. Currently, mobile coupons are seeing a redemption rate of about 5 – 7% percent in comparison to a 2% redemption rate in traditional printed coupons. mCoupons are 20 times more likely to be redeemed than paper based coupons from newspapers, magazines, inserts etc. mCoupons can achieve a number of campaign objectives, such as:
