Also on the program will be a "ghost walk," drills, documentary films, demonstrations of everyday life in the 1860s and some good ol' mountain music.
It's one of the benefits of having an authentic Civil War battle site, complete with period trenches, on one's grounds. Nearly 100 re-enactors will camp for the weekend on the museum's property at 3201 S. 17th St.
"It's a good chance for them to get together and catch up with each other," said Daphne Holmes, the Cameron's curator of public programs.
One additional feature this year, Holmes said, will be the presence of several sutlers, or merchants who followed the armies, selling tobacco, sundries and other small items to the troops.
All activities are free. Additional parking will be available at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center lot and the former PPD lots across from the museum.
The public portion of the weekend officially begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the battle site with an opening
