Amateurs ace in the hole sparks big first-day lead in Underwood Cup Matches

It was one of the most improbable ways to make a hole-in-one. But it was the highlight of an already spectacular day for the amateur team in the Underwood Cup Matches.
Luis Rivera, a former Jacksonville University player who is making his first apeparance in the Cup Matches, used a 3-iron to ace the par-3 13th hole at the Timuquana Country Club Monday in an alternate shot match with teammate Jon Bolen.
The hole was playing 202 yards and the pin in the left-center. It's one of the most difficult par-3 holes on the First Coast and long-time Timuquana members say it's aced perhaps several times per year, usually from the member tees.
When the ball took off, Rivera knew he was tracking the pin.
But how far?
"It was on line and I guess the only question was how far it would go," Rivera said. "If it hadn't hit the flagstick, I would have had a tough shot."
"It would have gone to the 14th tee," Bolen joked.
Rivera's father Bob, the parking manager for SMG, was nearly in a state of disbelief.
